Terps Crystal Langhorne, Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver have accepted invitations to the 2005 USA Women's Basketball National Team trials which take place May 19-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. During those days, players will be selected to play on the U-19 World Championship (formerly Junior World Championship squad) and the USA World University Games teams.
The 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year, Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J,/Willingboro) is eligible to be selection to either team, while Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's) and Toliver (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg), who will be freshmen at Maryland beginning in the fall, are only eligible for the U19 squad. Coleman was a member of last year's USA U19 World Championship Qualifying Team which went 5-0 in Puerto Rico, captured a gold medal and a berth for the 2005 FIBA Women's U19 World Championship scheduled to be played July 15-24 in Hammamet and Tunis, Tunisia.
The 2005 World University Games will be held Aug. 11-21 in Imzir, Turkey, with 21 teams participating.
Langhorne was the only player in the league to average a double-double, posting 17.2 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game, en route to second team All-ACC nods. She was the first Terrapin since 1991 to earn Rookie of the Year honors. She also broke the school record for the most conference Rookie of the Week selections with five, the freshman class season scoring and rebounding records, tallying over 500 points and 300 rebounds.
Coleman and Toliver were named first team McDonald's and WBCA High School All-Americans. Coleman led all scorers with 19 points at the McDonald's All-America game then was named Most Valuable Player of the Red Team at the WBCA All-American game. Coleman and Toliver were also selected to the USA Today All-USA Girls Team, with Coleman earning a spot on the first team and Toliver garnering a spot on the second team.
