COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Nearly 300 Maryland student-athletes representing the university's 27 varsity sports earned a spot on the University of Maryland Academic Honor Roll for the Spring 2005 semester, announced Athletics Director Deborah A. Yow. Of the 296 student-athletes on the list, 37 achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Student-athletes must earn a 3.0 GPA or better in a semester to be eligible for the university list. The number of student-athletes named to the honor roll is up slightly from the previous semester. There were 290 student-athletes who made the Fall honor roll.

"I'm proud of the focus our student-athletes have to strive for excellence in competition and in the classroom," stated Yow. "This is a tribute to our coaches and academic support staff."

Football placed the greatest number of student-athletes on the list with 26, including second team All-ACC punter Adam Podlesh and several other starters.

The women's cross country and track & field squads had 23 members on the honor roll, followed by the NCAA semifinalist men's lacrosse team, which had 22. The ACC Champion women's swimming and diving squad had 21 student-athletes on the list, while women's lacrosse had 20.

Among the 296 student-athletes named to the university honor roll were Honda Sports Award finalist and two-time All-America field hockey standout Paula Infante, men's lacrosse All-American Bill McGlone, women's lacrosse All-American Annie Collins, Kodak/WBCA Region II Women's Basketball All-American Shay Doron and All-American Elizabeth Lavell, who helped the women's swim team to its first-ever ACC title.

Also on the list were women's basketball ACC Rookie of the Year Crystal Langhorne, ACC wrestling champion Charles Pinto and three-time All-ACC tennis player Ramona But.

In addition, the following student-athletes earned spots on the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 spring teams after recording at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA: Adam Ambrus and Nathaniel Zola (men's track and field), Mandy Pascual (gymnastics) and Lauren Pollock (softball).
