COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Terrapin team captain Ian Healy joins the nation's finest senior collegiate lacrosse players on Saturday, June 11, at the 64th Annual North-South All-Star Game at SUNY Cortland in upstate New York. Healy, who completed his Maryland career with a run to the 2005 NCAA semifinals, adds the all-star honor to a resume which included six goals as a senior and an induction into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

All-star competition begins at noon with the Division III game at the Cortland Stadium Complex, followed by the Division I All-Star Game at 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the gate and are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under five years of age are admitted free of charge. Parking for the event is available in the Route 281 lot adjacent to the Stadium Complex.

The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), which coordinates the selection of the all-star teams, will sponsor its annual awards banquet on Friday night in SUNY Cortland Corey Union on its campus. In addition to honoring the 2005 All-Americans and Academic All-Americans in Divisions I, II and III, the banquet also recognizes the recipients of the USILA awards for Man of the Year, the Frenchy Julian Award for dedication to the sport, and the media award for coverage of collegiate lacrosse.

Tickets to the banquet may be obtained by calling 585-245-5873. SUNY Cortland, the Cortland Regional Sports Council and Auxiliary Services Corporation have assisted with planning the weekend events.

Selection of the all-stars begins with nominations from each head coach. Collegiate coaches across the nation then rank the nominees, and the top-ranked players are invited to the game. Alternates are named as well.

The first North-South All-Star Game was played in 1940 at Municipal Stadium in Baltimore, Md. The North won that inaugural contest by a 6-5 margin. Since then, the game has been played annually, interrupted only in 1943 and 1944, by World War II. Beginning in 1991, the North-South Game was divided into two games -- one for the Division III all-stars andthe other for the Division I and II senior standouts.
