Terps Take Seventh At Great American

    Freshman Tyler McCandless was the Terps' top runner for the second straight meet as Maryland finished seventh at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. on Saturday.

    Competing in the University Seeded race, Maryland was led by McCandless, who finished 25th overall with a time of 25:27.80. It marks the second consecutive meet in which he has paced the Terps. At the Great Meadows Invitational Sept. 10 he came in eighth overall to lead the way for Maryland. On Saturday, he was followed on the team by junior Matt Sanders, who placed 33rd (25:27.10).

    Freshmen Jake Travers, Josh Davis and Zach Martinez also faired well in the 8k race. Travers finished just two spots behind Sanders in 35th and Davis and Martinez came in 66th and 71st, respectively.

    Next up for the Terps is the Paul Short Invitational next Saturday in Bethlehem, Pa. where they will get a sneak peak at the course they'll be running at regionals later in the year.
