
Podlesh and Covington Earn ACC Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md - University of Maryland junior Adam Podlesh and redshirt freshman Trey Covington earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in last weekend's 22-12 conference win at Wake Forest. Podlesh was named specialist of the week and Covington co-rookie of the week. The honor was the first of the season for each.
Podlesh punted six times for 298 yards, averaging 49.7 yards per punt. The Pittsford, N.Y., native pinned the Demon Deacons within the 20-yard line three times, and reeled off a 56-yard punt in the third quarter and a 60-yard punt in the fourth. He had a net average for the game of 47.7 yards per kick.
Covington was joined by Virginia guard Branden Albert as the recipient of rookie honors. Covington had four tackles in the Terrapins' win. The Bowie, Md., freshman also had a seven-yard sack and broke up a pass on the day. Albert played all 64 snaps and graded out at 74 percent in the Cavaliers' 38-7 win over Duke. The freshman from Glen Burnie, Md., had multiple knockdowns and helped Virginia roll up 324 yards of total offense and rush for 110 yards.

OFFENSIVE BACK
North Carolina tailback Barrington Edwards rushed for 129 yards on 25 carries and scored one touchdown in the Tar Heels' 31-24 victory over NC State on Saturday. Against the ACC's second-ranked defense, Edwards got North Carolina started early with a career-best 62-yard run on the second play of the game. With North Carolina trailing by 10 in the third quarter, the sophomore from Bowie, Md., capped an 80-yard Tar Heel drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
OFFENSIVE LINE
Virginia Tech tight end Jeff King caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Hokies' 51-7 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Pulaski, Va., senior set a new Virginia Tech record for touchdown catches by a tight end with his ninth career score. King also blocked a Georgia Tech field goal attempt, which Virginia Tech recovered and returned 78 yards for a touchdown.
DEFENSIVE LINE
Virginia linebacker Kai Parham and Boston College linebacker Brian Toal share defensive line honors after leading their teams to league wins on Saturday. Parham had a team-best 12 tackles in the Cavaliers' 38-7 win over Duke, five of which were solo stops. Three of his tackles were for loss, including a sack. The junior from Virginia Beach, Va., also had a hand in Virginia's first score, as he forced a fumble on the sack, which Virginia recovered. Toal scored a touchdown on a one-yard run in overtime to lift Boston College to a 16-13 win over Clemson. The Wyckoff, N.J., sophomore also had six tackles, including three solo stops, two tackles for loss and an eight-yard sack.
DEFENSIVE BACK
Miami strong safety Brandon Meriweather turned in a game-high 13 tackles, three of which were for lost yardage, in the Hurricanes' 23-3 win over Colorado on Saturday. Meriweather, a junior from Apopka, Fla., also broke up a pass and had an interception, which he returned eight yards. Maryland's Milton Harris was among the nominees for the award.
