Sept. 8, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Tom Cosgrove, who was an All-America center for the University of Maryland football team in 1952, is one of six Terrapin greats who will be inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 30.

Also being inducted are Paul McNeil (wrestler), joe f. blair (former sports information director), Walt Williams (men's basketball), Deanna Tate (women's basketball) and Jessica Wilk (field hockey / lacrosse).

Cosgrove was a second team All-Player's All-America as a center for the 1952 Terps in his senior year, after earning honorable mention All-America as a junior. He was also honored on the All-Southern Conference second team, as well as the All-Player's All-South second team. The Terrapins were 7-2 in his senior season and finished the season ranked 13th in the nation.

He was the Terrapins' starter at center from the first game of his sophomore season and was listed in the Maryland 1952 press guide as possibly "the best offensive center in college football today."

Following his senior season, Cosgrove played in the North-South Shrine Game in Miami, the Senior Bowl and the College All-Star Game held in Chicago's Soldier Field. He was selected in the 13th round of the 1952 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Cosgrove also played men's basketball briefly for the Terps.
