
Coleman ACC Rookie of the Week for the Third Time

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the third time this season, Maryland's Marissa Coleman was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Week, which was announced today. She averaged 17 points and nearly nine rebounds per game, helping the Terps to three victories over the holidays.
Before the holidays on Dec. 22, Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) started her string of impressive games scoring a game-high 20 points while matching a career best with 10 rebounds in leading the sixth-ranked Terps (12-1) to 70-33 victory at George Mason. She was 7-for-11 from the field, including a 5-for-7 effort beyond the 3-point arc. She also added four assists and three steals.
In the Terrapin Classic last week, she netted 15 points to go with six boards in Maryland's 94-57 victory over Central Connecticut State. She went 7-for-9 from the floor, while also dishing out six assists and recording three steals. She capped the tournament posting her third double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and grabbing a career-high tying 10 rebounds vs. Furman in the championship game. She also had five assists and matched another career high with four blocks en route to all-tournament honors.
Over the three games, Coleman averaged 17.0 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 5.0 assists, 2.3 steals and 2.0 blocks per game. She went 21-for-34 from the floor (61.8 percent) and was 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Through games played on Jan. 1, Coleman ranks fifth in the ACC in points (17.0 ppg), 11th in rebounds (6.8 rpg), 12th in assists (3.67 apg) and is tied for fifth with 1.92 bpg. She is second in the conference in three-point shooting (.848) and fifth in field goal percentage (.626).
Coleman also earned ACC Rookie of the Week nods on Nov. 28 and Dec. 12.
The Terps are in action tonight, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. at Comcast Center for their final non-conference tune-up vs. Manhattan College. Tickets are still available for purchase at the Comcast Center Ticket Office. Maryland opens ACC action on Thursday, Jan. 5 at Boston College before coming home on Sunday, Jan. 8, to host No. 2-ranked Duke.
