PHILADELPHIA -
Maryland men's soccer head coach Sasho Cirovski has been named National Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Cirovski, who was also named the 2005 ACC Coach of the Year, earns the prestigious honor for the first time in his career.
The 2005 season proved to be a memorable one for Cirovski. With a 19-4-2 record, his Terrapins claimed their first national title since 1968, and Jason Garey earned the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy and the NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete of the Year awards. In addition, his vision of a national television package became reality when Fox Soccer Channel signed an eight-game deal with the NSCAA, which will grow to include women's matches in 2006.
