Maryland women's basketball players Crystal Langhorne and Marissa Coleman earned weekly conference honors, which was announced today by the Atlantic Coast Conference. Langhorne, who averaged a double-double in three games last week, was selected Player of the Week for the second time this season. Coleman was voted Rookie of the Week for the fourth time.
A sophomore, Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) started the week with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the No. 6/6 Terrapins' 68-62 win at No. 25/24 Virginia Tech. She had a big second half, scoring 12 of her points and grabbing seven rebounds after the half, helping Maryland overcome a three-point deficit. On Thursday against Georgia Tech, she scored a game-high 23 points, collecting five rebounds as the Terps picked up a 79-71 win. She, again, turned in a dominant second half, tallying 19 of her 23 points after the intermission. She also netted a career-best 11 free throws in the game, going 11-for-14 on the evening. Closing out the week on Sunday, Langhorne had an impressive performance at Wake Forest, tallying a career-high 34 points to go with 14 rebounds for her league-leading 10th double-double of the season, lifting UM to a 79-70 overtime win. Ten of Langhorne's points on the evening came in the overtime, as she personally outscored the Demon Deacons, 10-6.
On the week, Langhorne was 57.4 percent from the floor (27-or-47) and was 24-for-30 from the free throw line (80.0 percent). She averaged 26.0 points and 13.3 rebounds over the three games.
Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) also had an impressive week where she averaged 12.7 points and 10.0 rebounds in Maryland's three wins. Against the Hokies, she pulled down a career-high 11 boards, narrowly missing a double-double with nine points, and added three blocks. She recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds vs. Georgia Tech, including a career-best 8-for-8 from the free throw line. She also had a couple of blocks and four assists in the game. She capped the week with 11 points and nine rebounds in the overtime victory at Wake Forest, while also swatting away three shots.
Coleman shares Rookie of the Week honors with North Carolina's Christina Dewitt. Coleman was 12-for-49 from the floor (42.9 percent) over the three games and was perfect in 10 trips to the free throw line. She also averaged 2.0 assists and 2.7 blocks per game.
Maryland is back in action at home on Wednesday, Feb. 1 against Miami. The Terps are on a five-game winning streak, improving their record to 19-2 and 6-1 in the ACC.
