GREENSBORO, N.C. - Two University of Maryland football players were honored today as ACC Players of the Week after their efforts in leading the Terps to a 27-24 victory over Florida State this past Saturday. Sophomore defensive end Jeremy Navarre and freshman wide receiverDarrius Heyward-Bey were named Defensive Line Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Navarre had five tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss in the Terps' 27-24 victory over Florida State Saturday. Most notably, the Joppatowne, Md., product made the game's deciding play, blocking a 46-yard field goal attempt by the Seminoles with 38 seconds left that would have tied the game. Earlier in the game, Navarre recovered a fumble which led to a Maryland touchdown in the first quarter, and in the third period, stuffed the FSU runner on fourth down, a defensive stand which led to another score for the Terps.
Meanwhile, Heyward-Bey had two touchdown catches in the Terps' 27-24 victory over Florida State Saturday. The Silver Spring, Md., native had a team-high three catches for 57 yards, including scoring receptions of five and 30 yards; the latter proved to be the game-winner.
