COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 7 Maryland men's soccer team will take on No. 12 Notre Dame on Saturday, November 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Ludwig Field in the NCAA Tournament round of 16. The Terps shutout No. 9 St. John's, 2-0, last night and the Irish topped Illinois-Chicago, 1-0, in their second round game. Maryland is just 667 fans away from breaking the single-season attendance record of 38,804 set by Connecticut in the 2000 season.
In 14 home dates this season, 38,138 fans have watched the returning national champions play at Ludwig Field which is already a program-record. It shattered last season's record of 33,121 fans. Three of the program's top-five all-time crowds have come this season. NC State drew 4,565 spectators and 6,214 came out to watch Boston College. The September 29 match against Duke set a new game record as 6,489 fans watched the Terps win 1-0.
The Terps have been unbeatable in the NCAA Tournament at Ludwig Field since 2002, holding an 11-0-2 record in 13 contests. Both times that Maryland played to a draw, it was able to advance on penalty kicks.
Saturday's third round game will feature another BIG EAST opponent in Notre Dame. It is the first time in Terps' postseason history that they will play two-straight teams currently in the BIG EAST.
