Three Terps Among Women's Wooden Award Candidates

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's basketball players Shay Doron, Marissa Coleman and Crystal Langhorne are among the top 30 candidates for the Women's John R. Wooden Award, presented annually to the nation's top women's collegiate basketball player. It marks the second time this preseason the trio has been named to a national player of the year list.
Maryland's three candidates are tied for the most selections by one team. North Carolina is the other team with three Heels named to the list. Both Doron (Ramat Hasharon, Isreal) and Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J.) were named to the preseason list last season, while Langhorne was a finalist for the prestigious award.
Doron, Langhorne and Coleman have also been selected candidates for the preseason Wade Trophy, the WBCA's national player of the year award. Sophomore Kristi Toliver was the fourth Terrapin to be named to the Wade Watch List.
Langhorne led the team in scoring (17.2p ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg), en route to earning All-American honors by the USBWA and the Associated Press. She was the program's first All-American since 1989. Doron is a three-time All-ACC pick, only the second player in school history to be named all-conference three times. Coleman was voted last year's ACC Rookie of the Year and was also the only freshman in the league to earn All-ACC nods. She was second on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg), while also leading the league with a 47 percent shooting percentage from three-point range.
The Terrapins host the LTL All-Stars tonight for their only exhibition game of the preseason. Maryland, who opens the season ranked No. 1 in the country in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, travels to Middle Tennessee State on Friday, Nov. 10 before coming home on Sunday, Nov. 12 to face George Mason.
