National Champions No. 1 in Coaches Poll
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's basketball team faces its first opponent as the reigning national champions when it hosts LTL All-Stars for an exhibition matchup on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
The Terrapins face outside competition for the first time before the season officially begins on Friday, Nov. 10 at Middle Tennessee State. The LTL All-Stars consist of former collegiate players, including former Terrapin Deedee Warley.
Other familiar names Terrapin fans might remember are Brandi Teamer, an All-ACC honoree from Virginia two seasons ago, and Tasha Phillips was a member of Clemson's squad a few years ago, as well.
The All-Stars are coming off an 88-56 thumping at the hands of No. 3 Oklahoma on Wednesday. Ke-Ke Tardy led the team with 12 points. On Monday night, they defeated Houston, 78-66, with three players reaching double figures. Teamer and former UCLA standout Nikki Blue led the squad with 13 points each.
Maryland was ranked No. 1 in the ESPN/USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll, the first time in school history the Terps have earned the top preseason rating. The Terps return their top eight scorers and rebounders from last year's championship team, including Wade Trophy Candidates Crystal Langhorne, Shay Doron, Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver.
