
Terrapins Place Nine on All-ACC Football Squad

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Nine University of Maryland student-athletes were named to the 2006 All-Atlantic Coast Conference football team, the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) and the Associated Press announced jointly this evening.
Senior punter Adam Podlesh, sophomore linebacker Erin Henderson, junior offensive lineman Andrew Crummey and freshman wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey were voted to the second team, while senior quarterback Sam Hollenbach, junior tight end Joey Haynos, senior offensive tackle Stephon Heyer, senior cornerback Josh Wilson and senior place-kicker Dan Ennis were honorable mention.
The nine overall selections tied for tops overall with Wake Forest and Clemson, and were the most since the Terrapins had 10 in 2003.
Podlesh was the lone repeat honoree for the Terps, collecting his fourth consecutive second-team selection. He becomes the first Terrapin in school history to secure the All-ACC honors four times. The two-time Ray Guy Award semifinalist ranks second in the ACC and 20th nationally in punting average (43.1 ypp).
Henderson ranks second in the league and 21st nationally in tackles (9.2 pg), and has averaged 12.4 stops over the last five games. He had a career-high 17 stops in the 13-12 win over No. 19 Clemson. The Aberdeen, Md. native has also picked off two passes and forced a pair of fumbles on the year.
Heyward-Bey, a native of Silver Spring, Md., has emerged as one of the top wide receivers in the conference. He is one of only four freshmen voted to either first, second or honorable mention squads.
Crummey and Heyer have a led a talented offensive line which has allowed Lance Ball and Keon Lattimore to each rush for over 650 yards this season, and enabled Hollenbach to complete 62 percent of his passes.
Hollenbach has thrown for 2,148 yards so far this season and ranks fifth on the school's all-time passing yards chart (4,916). He is also third in the conference this season in passing efficiency (128.07 rating).
Haynos is the second-leading receiver on the team with 34 receptions for 338 yards and two touchdowns.
Wilson has been a shutdown corner all season for the Terps. He has picked off two passes and ranks tied for fifth in the ACC in passes defended (1.0 pg). Wilson, a native of Upper Marlboro, Md., has also tallied 52 tackles, including 41 solo stops, third-most on the team. He also ranks 10th in the country in kickoff return yardage (28.1 pr).
Ennis is closing out his career in style, connecting on his last 12 field-goal attempts and 19 of 23 (83 percent) overall on the season. The Sykesville, Md., native ranks sixth nationally in field goals (1.6 pg) and his 86 points are 12th on the Terps' all-time single-season chart.
The Terps (8-4, 5-3) closed out the regular season Saturday and are awaiting the destination of their fourth bowl game appearance in the last six years.
