
Wrestling Opens Season At Avalon Duals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team will open its 2006-07 season this Saturday, November 4 when it competes in the Avalon Duals in Erie, Pa. The Terrapins will take part in three duals, facing Stanford at 1:00 p.m., Mercyhurst at 3:00 p.m., and No. 13 Edinboro at 5:00 p.m.
Redshirt freshman Hudson Taylor, ranked 11th nationally at 197 pounds, will start for the Terps as well as junior Charlie Pinto at 141. It will be his first action since sustaining a season-ending injury in the second match of the Avalon Duals last year. Also in action for Maryland will be 2006 ACC champion Andrew Schlaffer at 149 pounds who won a pair of matches at last year's Duals.
Four true freshman are making their Maryland debuts on Saturday at the Duals. Jon Kohler will be competing at 133 pounds, Mike Letts will wrestle at 174, Rich DiPierto will be at 184, and heavyweight John Price will split time with senior captain Jerry Afari.
