INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 5 Maryland men's soccer team earned the fifth seed in the 2006 Division I Men's Soccer Championship, giving the Terps a first round bye and home field advantage in the second and third rounds. The Terps will host the winner of Monmouth-St. John's on Wednesday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Ludwig Field.

This is the fifth-consecutive season under head coach Sasho Cirovski that the men's soccer squad has earned a seed in the top five. The Terps were the second seed in 2002 and 2003, the third seed in 2004, and the top seed last season when they won the national championship.

The Terrapins, who are 15-4-1, will host their first two games in the tournament should they advance. If the bracket is true, the Terps would face fourth-seeded Virginia in the quarterfinals in Charlottesville. The Terps are 10-0-2 at Ludwig Field in the last four seasons in the NCAA Tournament, allowing Maryland to reach four consecutive College Cups. In both draws, the Terrapins advanced on penalty kicks.

St. John's (13-5-2) won the BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday with a stunning 1-0 overtime win against No. 2 West Virginia. The Red Storm did not surrender a goal the entire tournament and beat three-consecutive ranked teams en route to their title.

Monmouth (14-3-3) captured the Northeast Conference title on Sunday and will play in its first ever NCAA Tournament. In the most recent NSCAA/adidas poll, the Hawks are ranked No. 16 in the nation. They ended the regular season with a 13-game unbeaten streak.

St. John's and Monmouth will play their first round game on Friday, November 10 in Queens, N.Y.

This year's College Cup will take place in St. Louis, Missouri on the campus of Saint Louis University at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. The semifinals will take place on December 1 with the championship on December 3 at 2:00 p.m. That match will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
