Over 8,000 tickets have been sold by the University of Maryland during the eight business days following the team's selection to the 2006 Champs Sports Bowl, the department of athletics announced Wednesday.
Sales have been strong and there are still over two weeks remaining until the game, which is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 29 in Orlando, Fla.
The Terps (8-4, 5-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) will be facing Purdue (8-5, 5-3 Big Ten Conference) for the first time ever and making their fourth bowl appearance in the last six years.
"Maryland fans enjoy bowl travel," Maryland Director of Athletics Deborah A. Yow said. "They're not finished purchasing tickets yet, but our fans have shown why they are among the best in the country."
Terrapin fans have many options to reach the Champs Sports Bowl with a number of airports within driving distance of Orlando, including Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville and Melbourne.
Kickoff from Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium is set for 8:00 p.m. (EST). The game will be televised live nationally in prime time on ESPN and broadcast on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network (105.7 FM and 1300 AM Baltimore; 630 AM Washington, D.C.).
