Dec. 18, 2006

  • 2006 NSCAA/adidas College Men Scholar All-America Teams

MISSION, Kan. - Junior midfielder Stephen King was named to the 2006 NSCAA/adidas College Men Scholar All-America Third Team, announced today. King, a finance major, was second on the team with 19 points on six goals and seven assists. He is the only student-athlete from the Atlantic Coast Conference to be named to one of the three teams.

King has earned academic honors already, being named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America third team on November 20.

King, a captain, led the Terps to a 16-5-1 record this season and a berth in the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. He has been a mainstay in the Maryland midfield since he stepped foot on campus in 2004, starting all 72 games he has played in since his arrival. King was an All-ACC second team selection this year and a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy.

King has already made a stamp on the Terrapins career record book. After three seasons in College Park, he is tied with Jason Cropley in ninth with 76 points and his 20 assists is 10th all-time. King has also recorded 28 goals in his career, just three away from breaking into the top-10 in Maryland history.
