Top-Ranked Terps Return To Action
No. 1/1 Maryland is back on the floor at Loyola on Thursday, Dec. 21, 11 days since its contest. It is the Terps' first game in Baltimore since the 2000-01 season.
Maryland continues to roll through the season, winning its first 12 games of the year and 18-straight, the nation's longest winning streak, dating back to last season.
Maryland's 18-game win streak is the longest in the nation and dates back to March 19, 2006, the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Five Terps are averaging double figures. During last season's championship run, five Terrapins also averaged double-digit scoring.
The game can be heard on the University of Maryland's WMUC Radio and on the internet with a link provided through www.umterps.com.
Last Time Out
Before taking a break from games for final exams, the Terps traveled to Temple where they remained perfect, picking up a 77-66 victory. Five players reached double figures in the game, led by Laura Harper's 17. Harper and classmate Crystal Langhorne were playing in front of a hometown crowd.
The Terps led for most of the game until the Owls took a late 62-58 with less than six minutes remaining in the game. But Maryland scored the next 13 in a row, including six from sophomore Kristi Toliver to regain the lead and then eventually the win.
Toliver finished with 10 points, as five Terrapins reached double figures. Sophomore Marissa Coleman had her fourth double-double of the season, netting 16 to go with 10 boards. Langhorne also had 16, while senior Shay Doron contributed 11.
Maryland shot 52.6 percent from the field, but made just one three-pointer in the game, a season low. The Owls hit just 36.4 percent of their attempts in the game and were outrebounded, 45-24 (26-8 in the second half).
In the Rankings
Maryland remains in the top spot in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after starting the season at 12-0, its best start since 1991-92.
