LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Maryland wrestling team improved to 6-3 in dual action with an impressive 25-16 win against Rider in front of over 800 spectators at Alumni Gym. Sophomore James Knox won by fall for his first pin of the season and senior Jason Kiessling and freshman Mike Letts continued their winning ways. Sophomore Josh Haines also won by decision in his first action of the season. The Terrapins will take on Rutgers (0-1) at 5:00 p.m. later today.

Kiessling, the Co-ACC Wrestler of the Week, earned his third major decision of the season to improve to 11-3. Letts added to his team-high win total and is now 12-2. Haines, competing in his first dual of the season, won by decision, 7-5, in overtime.

Rider (1-2) had wrestled a pair of ranked teams at home before taking on the Terrapins. The Broncs beat No. 21 Lehigh 24-14 on November 10 and then lost to No. 25 Pittsburgh, 21-13.

Knox pinned Tom Lorenzo in 3:39 to start the scoring for the Terrapins at 125 pounds. After Rider got a major decision at 133, junior Charlie Pinto earned a win by forfeit as the Broncs' entry could not make weight.

Rider took a 13-12 lead in the match after winning by decision at 149 and then getting a fall at 157. Kiessling came up big for the Terps with a 17-5 major decision to put Maryland back up 16-13 and Letts followed suit with a decision to make it 19-13. Haines added three more points to make it 22-13 with two matches remaining.

After the Broncs earned a decision at 197 to pull within six, senior captain Jerry Afari put the match away with a 6-2 win against Nick Ciufo.

The Terps will take on Rutgers (0-1) at 5:00 p.m. later today. The Scarlet Knights were shutout, 42-0, in their only dual match of the season against Navy.
