Taaffe Resigns as Maryland's Offensive Coordinator

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland head football coach Ralph Friedgen announced today the resignation of offensive coordinator Charlie Taaffe. Taaffe leaves the Terps after five successful years under Friedgen.
"Charlie has been an integral part of our success at Maryland," said Friedgen. "He has done a fantastic job and obviously been a part of some special moments in the program's history. We will miss him."
Taaffe, who also coached the quarterbacks at Maryland, helped lead the team to immediate success. The Terps set school records for points scored in 2001 (390) and then again in 2002 (451) winning respectively an Atlantic Coast Conference, Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl and Toyota Gator Bowl championship along the way.
"My family and I are appreciative of the five great years we have enjoyed at the University of Maryland," said Taaffe. "I am proud of our many accomplishments during this period of unprecedented success and I wish the players and staff much success as I explore other coaching opportunities."
Friedgen said the search for a replacement will begin immediately and will be national in scope. The Terrapins, who return seven offensive and seven defensive starters from 2005, open spring ball April 1st.
