On Day 2 of the Princeton Invitational, the Terrapin women's water polo team played what coach Carl Salyer deemed "the best game we've played all season" and nearly defeated opponent Harvard.
Tied 5-5 at the end of the third quarter, Maryland stayed close but eventually dropped to Harvard 8-7. The Terps continued to play strong defense, and finished with a 7-for-28 shooting effort, up from 5-for-28 against Marist the day before.
Scoring contributors for the Terps were Rachel Jodan and Juli Jordan with two goals each, and Elizabeth Hopkins, Blaise Stanicic, and Bryndis Klein netting one apiece.
Marissa Corwin played the first quarter and entire second half in goal, amassing three blocks and allowing five goals. Goalie Ashleigh Jobson blocked two and allowed three goals during the second quarter.
Salyer commended his team's great defense and great teamwork.
In the second game of the day, the Terrapins defeated Wagner 12-10. Wagner is ranked first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Rachel Jordan scored three, Juli Jordan and Christen Vagts each scored two, and Stanicic, Klein, and Allie Houseal added one goal each.
In goal, Corwin allowed four and blocked five, Jobson blocked one and gave up three goals, and Anna Gossett allowed three and blocked three in the fourth quarter.
Salyer attributed the win to the Terps' "speed, quickness, and athleticisim" and expressed his happiness "with the strides the girls have made in the first two weeks of the season."
The Terps will play in the Bucknell Invitational next weekend.
