College Park, Md. -
Junior Harry Alford and seniors Bill McGlone and Joe Walters have been named to the 2006 Tewaaraton Trophy watch list. This preseason list highlights the players to watch, as all NCAA Division I, II and III players vie for the most coveted and prestigious award in varsity lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Trophy.
Walters, a two-time semifinalist for the award, is the only current collegiate player to be named to the 2006 U.S. National team. He has led the Terps in scoring in each of his three seasons in College Park, including 53 points this past season on 38 goals and 15 assists to lead Maryland to the NCAA Final Four. During the 2005 season, Walters became just the 14th player in Maryland men's lacrosse history to score more than 100 goals in his career and is currently tied for sixth on the school's all-time goal scoring list with 117, just 32 shy of Matt Hahn's school record of 149 goals. .
McGlone, a first team All-American in 2005, is coming off of a tremendous 2005 season that saw him finish the year second on the team with 26 goals and tied for second with 33 points.
Alford, a native of Washington, D.C., enjoyed a tremendous first season as the Terrapins' starting goalie, making 191 saves in 2005, which ranks 10th on the single-season record chart. He had 11 games with double-digit saves and was named MVP of the ACC Tournament.
The Tewaaraton Trophy is awarded each year to the top male and female varsity lacrosse player, as chosen by the selection committee.
