COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The sixth-ranked Terrapin women's basketball team prepares for another big ACC test, traveling to top-ranked North Carolina on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. The Tar Heels are the third team this season Maryland faces who has been ranked No. 1 at some point this year.
Maryland (21-2, 8-1) is looking to extend its seven-game win streak and pull off another upset, as it did last year when the then-No. 21 Terrapins topped No. 5/4 UNC, 92-77, in Comcast Center. It is also looking for its 22nd win of the season, which would match its win total from last season.
The game could be a high-scoring affair as both teams are ranked in the top three in the nation in scoring. Maryland's 84.3 points per game is the second-highest scoring average in the country, followed by UNC's 83.5 ppg.
Two of the ACC's top post players will also be banging around in the paint. Maryland's Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) was named 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year over UNC's Erlana Larkins. Both were teammates on this summer's U19 USA squad which won a gold medal at the 2005 U19 FIBA World Championship in Tunisia. Both were also named tri-captains.
North Carolina (22-0, 9-0) is the only unbeaten team remaining in the nation. Maryland last defeated a No. 1-ranked team in 1992-93.
