Doron, Langhorne Named Academic All-District

Feb. 9, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland standouts Shay Doron and Crystal Langhorne were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 team, which was voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Doron earns her second-straight honor, earning a spot on the first team. Langhorne was voted onto the second team.

The two Academic All-District honors for Maryland are the most of any ACC team. Duke and Virginia Tech each had one player voted.

A junior, Doron (Great Neck, N.Y./Christ the King) was a second team honoree last year. A criminology and criminal justice major, she carries a 3.708 grade point average. A two-time member of the Academic All-ACC squad, she has earned a spot on the dean's list the last four semesters.

A starter in every game, Doron is second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game. She is dishing out a team-best 4.7 assists per game and is shooting a career-best 47.6 percent from three-point range. Last year, Doron was a Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-American and a first team All-ACC performer.

Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) was named to the Academic All-District team after earning a 3.295 GPA. A sophomore center/forward, she was recently among the top 20 midseason candidates for the John R. Wooden Award. The 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year and a second team all-conference honoree, she currently leads the team 16.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, both of which rank in the top three in the ACC. She also is the league leader with 11 double-doubles on the season.

Players who are of sophomore academic and athletic standing, have a minimum 3.2 grade point average and are a starter or significant reserve are eligible to be nominated for Academic All-America honors. First team all-district honorees move onto the national ballot.

Ranked sixth in the nation, the Terps take on No. 1 North Carolina tonight at 7 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C. Maryland then travels to No. 2/2 Duke on Monday night, Monday Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
