Maryland's Xander Ritz was named Inside Lacrosse's National Player of the Week and the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after guiding the Terrapins to an 8-7 overtime victory over No. 1 Duke in Durham last Saturday.
Ritz tallied six points on five goals and an assist including the game-winner with two minutes and 46 seconds remaining in overtime to give Maryland the victory. The senior midfielder scored four of the first five Terrapin goals in a game the witnessed five ties and six lead changes. The Wayne, Pa. native set a career-high scoring five goals against the Blue Devils, while extending his point scoring streak to 18 straight games. The win was Maryland's first over a No. 1 ranked team since 1987 when the Terps defeated top-ranked North Carolina.
Through two games so far, both against top ten opponents, Ritz has nine goals and an assist.
Ritz and the No. 1-ranked Terrapins are back in action at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 11 as they host No. 15 Towson at Byrd Stadium in a game shown nationally on ESPNU and locally on WMAR.
