Maryland NCAA Notes

Maryland played in the Women's Final Four for the first time since 1989 and made its third trip in school history. The Terps reached the national semifinals in 1982 and 1989.

The Terps will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament title game.

Maryland is the third No. 2 seed in three years to advance to the title game. Last year No. 2 seed Baylor advanced to the title game, and in 2004, No. 2 seed Connecticut advanced to the title game.

Maryland is the only team in this year's Women's Final Four who played in the inaugural Women's Final Four 25 years ago. Maryland dropped a 76-66 decision to Cheney State that year.

Maryland is making its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance and third straight. It is the first time since 1991-93 that the Terps have made three consecutive trips to the Big Dance.

The Terps now have a 19-14 all-time tournament record.

Maryland has been a No. 2 seed five times and honored with a No. 1 seed once in 1989.

In three NCAA appearances under head coach Brenda Frese, the Terps improved from a No. 12 seed in 2003-04 to a No. 7 seed in 2004-05 and finally a No. 2 seed this season.

Maryland Team Notes

This was the first meeting between Maryland and North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament.

Maryland handed North Carolina its only two losses of the season - a 95-98 OT loss to Maryland on February 9 and tonight's 81-70 loss.

The Terps advanced to the ACC Championship game before falling to No. 1 North Carolina, 91-80.

Maryland, who leads the country in rebound margin, outrebounded North Carolina, 41-31. In the ACC championship game, the Tar Heels outrebounded the Terps by 11 boards, 48-37. The Terps are now 32-1 on the season when outrebounding their opponents.

This marked the fifth game this season that Maryland did not score a 3-pointer in the first half. The Terps are now 3-2 when held without a long-range bucket in the first half.

With tonight's game Maryland has played 13 opponents ranked in top-25, and nine against top-10 teams.

The win marked the first game that Laura Harper and Crystal Langhorne each scored 20+ points in the same game.

The Terps ended the season in the AP top five for the third time in school history. The last time Maryland appeared in the final AP poll was the 1992-93 season.

Maryland posted its first 30-win season in school history, boasting a 33-4 record. The 33 wins are the most for any Maryland men or women's basketball teams.

Maryland is just one of five teams in the nation to have five players average double figures (Jacksonville State and Idaho State).

The Terps are the only team in the nation to score 3,000 points this year. After the semifinal game, the Terps have 3,088 total points.

Maryland is 10-4 vs. teams in this year's NCAA Tournament field, with its only four losses coming to two No. 1 seeds and a No. 2 seed.

North Carolina now owns the all-time series, 32-29.

Maryland has faced the No. 1 ranked team in the nation four times this season and is 2-3 against those teams.

Maryland has made 10 more free throws in the five games of the NCAA Tournament then its opponents have attempted. The Terps have gone to the line 118 times, knocking down 90, while opponents have combined for just 80 attempts, while making 55.

With 24 free throws made against UNC, the Terps have made a school-record 671 free throws on 900 attempts, also a school record.

Maryland led 36-34 heading into halftime. The Terps are now 30-1 when leading at the half.

Significant Individual Notes

Langhorne went 7-for-8 in the first half, totaling 16 points. She was 10-of-12 (.833) for the game. She has scored 120 points in this year's NCAA Tournament.

With Langhorne's 23 total points, she moved into 19th place on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,173 points. She passed Renneika Razor's (2000-03) 1,163 career points.

Langhorne's 642 points moved her into second place all-time for scoring in a season. She is 44 points shy of breaking Vicky Bullett's (1988-89) record of 686 points.

Langhorne scored 20+ points for the 12th time this season, including NCAA Tournament games against St. John's and Baylor. She has scored in double figures for 23 straight contests.

Laura Harper scored a career-high 24 points against UNC. Her previous high was 22 points against Loyola on November, 30, 2004.

Langhorne was named a 2006 Kodak/WBCA All-America Team Honorable Mention.

Shay Doron stands first all-time in Maryland history with 410 free throws made.

Freshman Marissa Coleman scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, marking her 28th double-digit scoring game and 13th game in double-figure rebounds this season.

Coleman tallied 12 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists. It marks second time this season that she has achieved at least 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
