PRINCETON, N.J.- The University of Maryland women's water polo team defeated the Bucknell Bison for the first time this season at the CWPA Southern Division Championships. The two teams had previously faced each other four times this year.
Sophomore Allie Houseal and freshman Christen Vagts led Terrapin scorers with two goals each. Freshmen Rachel Jordan and Blaise Stanicic added the remaining two goals.
Senior goalie Marissa Corwin played the entire game, blocking five and allowing five goals.
The Terps scored the first goal of the game, and never allowed Bucknell to take the lead. Energetic play gave Maryland control of the game, and constant pressure prevented the Bison from "getting their legs back," according to Maryland head coach Carl Salyer.
The Terrapins will face Southern Division rival Princeton tonight at 8:30, and also automatically qualify for the CWPA Eastern Division Championship on April 29-30 in Providence, R.I.
