Three Men's Lacrosse Signees Set To Play In Inaugural Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic

College Park, Md. - Three incoming men's lacrosse signees, defenseman Brian Farrell, midfielder Bryn Holmes and goalie Brian Phipps, will compete for the South team in the inaugural Under Armour All-American Lacrosse Classic on Sunday, June 18, at Towson University's Unitas Stadium.

Farrell was named the Baltimore Sun's All-Metro Player of the Year after leading Boys' Latin to a perfect 17-0 record, a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association title and a No. 1 national ranking by Inside Lacrosse. In addition to being a lock-down defender, the 6'-5", 230-pound Farrell also scored five goals and added 10 assists for the Lakers in 2006. He is just the third defender to be named the Sun's player of the year in the past decade. An outstanding overall athlete, the Towson, Md., native, was also named to the Sun's All-Metro football team as a wide receiver after leading the metro-area with 53 receptions for 1,091 yards and nine touchdowns.

Holmes a three-sport standout was named the Sun's 2006 Male Athlete of the Year. The McDonogh graduate helped lead the Eagles to a No. 10 national ranking and a runner-up finish in the MIAA. As a senior, Holmes scored 28 goals, added 15 assists, picked up 156 groundballs and won 67 percent of his face-offs. The native of Marriottsville, Md., is also a two-time National Prep champion and a three-time state champion in wrestling. Holmes was also excelled on the gridiron, earning All-MIAA, All-County, All-Metro and All-State honors.

Phipps was named the winner of the 2006 Wynn Award, which is given annually to the best goaltender in the state of Maryland. The native of Severna Park, Md., averaged nearly 14 saves per game at Severn School and allowed only 5.45 goals per game in the MIAA's A Conference. A first-team All-Metro selection by the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post, Phipps had a 70.3 save percentage as a senior in 2006 and hold Severn's career save record with 696 stops.

Farrell, Holmes and Phipps were all named to the third annual men's and women's Baltimore/Washington "Toyota High School All-Tewaaraton Team" by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation.

The Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic will begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday with the Girls' All-American game. The Boy's All-America game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start. Tickets for the event can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-551-7328.
