University of Maryland men's lacrosse players Brendan Healy and David Tamberrino were named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's At-Large First Team.
Healy was a three-time USILA All-American for the Terps and was a second-round pick in this season's MLL college draft by the Baltimore Bayhawks. This season he scored 14 of his 21 goals in Maryland's last seven games and finished fourth on the team in points and goals with 32 and 21, respectively. For his career, the midfielder from Great Falls, Va., totaled 88 points on 60 goals and 28 assists. Earlier this year he was also tabbed a USILA Scholar All-American and strength and conditioning All-American by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Healy graduated in May with a 3.73 cumulative GPA in marketing. The recipient of a 2006 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship, Healy will attend law school at Ohio State beginning this fall.
Tamberrino was outstanding for the Terps as a face-off specialist this past season. During his senior season, the Lutherville, Md., native, won 58.7 percent of his face-offs, which led the Atlantic Coast Conference and was ninth overall in the nation. His 145 face-off victories in 2006 ranks 11th on Maryland's single-season list, while his 247 draws taken ranks him eighth. Tamberrino also led the team with 62 groundballs in 2006, which ranked him 45th in the nation with 3.88 groundballs per game. Tamberrino graduated last month with a cumulative GPA of 3.88 with a double-major of finance and general business.
CoSIDA's District 2 includes universities in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
