COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland football team completed its first week of fall camp today with a 45-play scrimmage in front of approsimately 150 fans at Byrd Stadium. In the scrimmage, the Terrapin offense looked sharp, effectively moving the ball through the air and on the ground.
The Terps were sharper than could have been anticipated considering how early it is in camp, that they are short-handed on the offensive line and that the team had already gone through a practice session earlier in the day.
Quarterback Sam Hollenbach played very well, completing 7-of-8 passes for 87 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. He led the Terps to a scoring march on their first possession of the day, a 22-yard reception by TE Joey Haynos sealing the deal.
Haynos was another of the offensive stars, catching three passes for 35 yards and the TD. TB Keon Lattimore also continued to run well, posting 14 yards on three carries and a pair of touchdowns. In one week of camp, Lattimore -- who did not participate in spring ball due to injury -- is clearly more comfortable than he has been in past years, running hard and showing that he, too, will factor in at an already deep tailback position.
Maryland has Sunday off before returning to practice on Monday for its second two-a-day of this fall.
