Terps, Hoyas Play to Draw

Aug. 12, 2006

GERMANTOWN, Md. - University of Maryland outshot Georgetown University by a wide margin and dominated flow of play during a 90-minute scrimmage Saturday at the Soccerplex here, but the Terps had to settle for a 0-0 draw in the exhibition opener for both teams.

"Tonight gave us a good, early look at a lot of players in different places," said Terrapin coach Sasho Cirovski. "I was pleased with the overall play, but our finishing clearly needs a lot of work; that is something we will focus on this coming week."

The Terrapins outshot the Hoyas 20-4, including a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. At least seven of the Terps' efforts were considered "high quality" scoring chances by Cirovski, particularly in the final 10 minutes of the contest when his club narrowly missed finding the back of the net on a number of chances.

Sophomore Chris Seitz had a pair of saves in posting a shutout for the Terps.

Maryland continues preparations for the 2006 season this week. On Thursday, the defending national champions will head to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on the Indiana Hoosiers in an exhibition match Friday night. The Terps open their regular season Aug. 25 at Old Dominion.

Maryland's first home match will be Aug. 27 against Binghamton; on Sept. 1, the Terps will play host to UCLA. Both matches will be at Ludwig Field on the University of Maryland campus.
