Sellout Expected vs. UCLA
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior midfielder Stephen King was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for his performance over the weekend in Maryland's first two matches of the season. He recorded two goals and added an assist for the Terps in wins against No. 23 Old Dominion and Binghamton.
Against No. 23 Old Dominion on August 25, King was taken down in the box on a scoring chance in the 42nd minute and was awarded with a penalty kick that he converted. That was the second goal of the game which sealed a big season-opening win at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
In the Terps home opener on August 27 against Binghamton, King was credited with an assist on the game-winning goal just 30 seconds into the second half. In the 67th minute, King delivered a blast in front of the box from about 22 yards away that got past the Bearcats keeper to record his second goal in as many matches.
King and the rest of the returning national champion Terps return to action this Friday night, September 1, in a huge early season matchup against No. 10 UCLA at Ludwig Field. It is part of a doubleheader as the No. 25 women's team hosts Towson at 5:00 p.m. Both games will be televised live by CSTV.
