King Recognized By Soccer America For Second Time

Sept. 6, 2006

  • Terps Beat No. 10 UCLA, 4-1
  • Maryland Tops Louisville, 2-1

OAKLAND, Calif. - Junior midfielder Stephen King was named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for the second-straight week for his efforts in Maryland's 4-1 win against No. 10 UCLA on September 2. King was also named the ACC Player of the Week and College Soccer News National Player of the Week. He scored the game winner against the Bruins and assisted on two other goals.

Against UCLA, King had a hand in the Terps first three goals. King assisted on the first goal of the match in the 25th minute when he sent a through ball to freshman Jason Herrick in front of the box. Herrick beat the Bruins keeper to put the Terps up 1-0. Four minutes later, King earned the game-winning goal when Herrick sent a cross into the box that King put away. King's second assist came just 1:16 into the second half when he found freshman Jeremy Hall who put an amazing shot into the back of the net.

In the Terps 2-1 win against Louisville on Monday night, King was involved with both of the Maryland goals. In the 11th minute, sophomore Graham Zusi scored when he beat the Cardinals keeper from the ground after King had served him the ball. In the 20th minute, King put a Rich Costanzo cross into the back of the net for his second game winner in as many matches.

King leads the team with four goals, four assists, and 12 points in four matches this season and his 3.00 points per game is tops in the ACC. King has been involved in eight of the Terps 11 goals this season.

The No. 1 men's soccer team heads to No. 5 Clemson on Friday, September 8 for a 7:00 p.m. ACC matchup at Riggs Field.
