TERPS MAKE FIRST ACC ROAD TRIP
Fresh off a dominating non-conference victory over No. 19/18 Michigan State, the top-ranked Terrapins take their first ACC road trip of the season, traveling to Miami on Jan. 10. It is Maryland's first trip to Coral Gables, Fla., in two years.
With its win over the Spartans, Maryland extended its win streak to 23 games, a school record and the nation's longest win streak.
The game can be heard on the University of Maryland's WMUC Radio and can be watched on www.ACCselect.com. Links to live audio and video are available on www.umterps.com.
TERPS SELL OUT COMCAST VS. DUKE
For only the second time in the history of the program and the first time in Comcast Center, the Terrapin women's basketball team announced a sell out. Maryland's game vs. No. 3 Duke on Feb. 18 is sold out. It would be the largest crowd to ever attend an ACC women's basketball game.
Maryland owns the top four attendance marks in ACC history, including the current record of 17,243 set on Feb. 13, 2005 when it hosted the Blue Devils. The Terps also drew more than 16,000 fans to last year's matchup against Duke, the second-largest women's basketball crowd in conference history.
The Terps have owned the top women's basketball attendance record for 14 years. It first set the all-time record in 1992 when a sellout crowd of 14,500 crammed Cole Field House to watch No. 1 Maryland take on No. 2 Virginia. That record stood until 2005.
Maryland is close to a second sell out, as only approximately 1,000 tickets are available (as of Jan. 9) for its contest vs. North Carolina on Jan. 28.
UNDER THE SHELL DEBUTS ON WEDNESDAY
The third season of Under the Shell debuts on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 11 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet. The groundbreaking series which features the Maryland women's basketball team will run for 12 weeks. It will rerun weekly on CSTV on Thursdays at 11 a.m. on CSTV.
ABOUT VS. MIAMI
The Hurricanes are 9-8 heading into Wednesday's game and is 0-2 in ACC action. Miami, who is under the direction of second-year head coach Katie Meier, has lost its last three games, including a 71-62 setback to Florida State and a 72-42 thumping of Duke. The Hurricanes lost to Mississippi, 82-64, a team which the Terps defeated, 110-79, in the Bahamas.
Miami is led by Renee Taylor's 20.5 points per game, an ACC-high, while Brittany Denson is the team's top rebounder at 7.3 rpg. The Hurricanes are third in the ACC in three pointers made, knocking down 5.8 threes per game.
SERIES VS. MIAMI:
Dating back to 1987, The Terps and Hurricanes have battled six times overall. Maryland won the first two games in the series, before dropping in December 2002 in head coach Brenda Frese's first season. Since then, the Terps have won the last three in a row, including winning a first-round NCAA Tournament game in March 2002, the program's first postseason victory in 12 years. The last time the Terps played in Coral Gables, Fla., then-freshman Crystal Langhorne had 29 points and nearly outrebounded Miami on her own, grabbing 22 boards (Miami had 22).
ONE OF THREE UNDEFEATED'S REMAINING
Maryland is one of just three undefeated Division I teams remaining in the country and all three are ACC teams. Duke (16-0) and North Carolina (18-0) boast spotless records, as well.
LANGHORNE NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the third time in her career and the first time this season, junior Crystal Langhorne was named ACC Player of the Week, which was announced on Jan. 8. Langhorne earned the conference weekly honor after averaging nearly 22 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over two games.
Langhorne closed out a 2-0 week going 13-for-14, dominating the inside against No. 19/18 Michigan State, scoring a season-high 28 points in 28 minutes of action. She was also one rebound shy of a double-double.
She dropped 15 points, going 5-for-8 from the floor in the decisive victory in the ACC opener against NC State. Langhorne leads the nation in shooting percentage at 77.7 percent.
COMING UP
Maryland stays on the road and travels to Durham, N.C., for the highly anticipated clash against No. 3 Duke. It is the first matchup between the teams since the Terrapins defeated the Blue Devils in overtime in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament.
