Terps Win Terrapin Classic
• Maryland won its third regular-season tournament of the season, capturing its fourth-straight Terrapin Classic. National player of the year candidate sophmore Marissa Coleman was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
• Sophomore Kristi Toliver was named to the all-tournament team, while junior Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood, who was playing in only her third game as a Terrapin, was also named to the all-star team.
• The Terps extended their nation's longest win streak to a school-record tying 21 games, defeating UNC Greensboro, 92-57, on the first day, then topped Marist, 86-60, in the championship game.
• The Terrapin guards dominated play, shooting 53.7 percent from three-point range. Both Coleman and Wiley-Gatewood were 5-7 from three over the two games (.714), while Toliver was 50 percent from long-range, going 6-for-12. Maryland's 12 three pointers vs. the Spartans on the opening day of the tournament was a school record.
• Maryland also made over half their field goals overall, shooting 54.5 percent as a team. On the free throw line, the Terps were just as impressive, missing just six freebees in 52 attempts for an 88.5 shooting percentage.
• On the glass, Maryland was just as dominant, outrebounding UNCG and the Red Foxes by an average margin of 22.0 rebounds per game.

In the Rankings
• Maryland remains in the top spot in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after starting the season at 15-0, its best start since 1991-92. The Terps received 45 of 48 first-place votes.
• The Terps garnered the No. 1 spot in the preseason poll, the first time in the history of the program they opened the season as the top team in the nation.
• Four Maryland opponents are also ranked in this week's AP poll. The ACC swept the top three spots in the ranking for the second-straight week. North Carolina and Duke follow the Terps in second and third, respectively. George Washington climd to No. 16 in the writers' poll and was rated 16th in last week coaches' poll. Michigan State jumped from 21st to 19th this week in the AP rankings.
• Middle Tennessee State and TCU are receiving votes this week in the AP poll. The coaches poll is released on Tuesday afternoons.

About NC State
• NC State is 11-3 on the season, bouncing back from a 94-74 loss to Nebraska to place third in the State Farm Classic with a 74-33 victory over Alabama State. After a 68-66 overtime setback at Arizona, the Wolfpack won seven in a row before falling to the Huskers.
• The Pack are playing without their mentor Kay Yow, who is the sister of Maryland Athletic Director Debbie Yow and is in her 36th season at the helm. While coach Yow is sidelined for medical reasons, associate head coach Stephanie Glance has taken over the reigns.
• NC State was picked to finish fourth in the ACC in the preseason media poll, after fith last year with a 7-7 record. The Pack advanced to the NCAA Tournament, falling to Tulsa in the first round, 71-61.
• With four of its starters back, NCST is led by Shayla Fields' 11.3 ppg. The Wolfpack are averaging 64.4 ppg, but are allowing a mere 52.1 ppg. Kadijah Whittington is averaging nearly a double-double, chipping in a 9.9 ppg and 9.6 rpg.
SERIES VS. NC STATE: Maryland trails the all-time series, 40-30, but have won the last two in a row and four of the last six. It is the first meeting between the teams in College Park since a 92-77 Maryland triumph on Jan. 9, 2005.

Wiley-Gatewood Makes Terp Debut
• Redshirt-junior Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood has made an immediate impact since putting on a Maryland uniform for the first time at Loyola on Dec. 21. In the three games she has played, she has achieved significant career highs.
• In her first outing since Dec. 15, 2005, Wiley-Gatewood dished out a career-high eight assists against the Greyhounds, committing just one turnover. She scored seven points in 20 minutes of playing time.
• Not known for her scoring, Wiley-Gatewood followed up netting a then-career high 13 points against UNC Greensboro in the Terrapin Classic on 3-for-5 shooting from three-point range and going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. She closed out the weekend leading all scorers with 17 points, knocking down four field goal attempts, including two three pointers. Her only miss of the evening was a free throw, but she made seven.

Coaching Milestone
• Fifth-year head coach Brenda Frese is just one win away from her 100th-career victory at College Park.
• In her five years at Maryland, Frese has ammassed 99 victories and 45 losses for a 68.8 winning percentage. She would become the second Maryland women's basketball coach to win 100 games at Maryland. Former legendary mentor Chris Weller won her 100th Maryland game in her fifth season and in her 136th game at the helm. When she retired after the 2001-02 campaign, she had won 499 contests in 27 years.
• Frese's first win in Colllege Park was an 80-72 win over Loyola on Nov. 22, 2002. Since then, she has guided the Terps to three-straight winning seasons, three-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, back-to-back 20-win seasons, a No. 1 ranking and the program's first-ever national championship crown.

Terps Break 3-Point Shooting Record
• Maryland put on a three-point shooting clinic in its victory over UNC Greensboro on the first day of the Terrapin Classic. The Terps made 12 three pointers, breaking the single-game team record.
• The previous record of 11 was set 1999 against Fairleigh Dickinson and was tied on Feb. 5, 2005 at Clemson when then-freshman Ashleigh Newman made seven treys nearly breaking the school mark.
• The Terrapins are long removed from the days when they were not a three-point shooting team. In 2004-05, Maryland was last in the ACC in three-pointers made (3.16) and were sixth with a 32.0 three-point shooting percentage. Last year, Maryland led the nation with a 40 percent team shooting percentage from that range and lead the ACC in three point shooting this season.

Great Start
• The Terps needs just one win to tie the school-record of 16-straight victories to open the season, set during the 1982-83 campaign. Maryland's 15-0 start is the best in 14 years.
• After defeating UCSB on Dec. 2, the Terrapins improved their season-opening win streak to 9-0, tying the program's best start to the season since the 1991-92 campaign.

Nation's Longest Win Streak
• With the Florida men's basketball team losing to Kansas on Nov. 25, the Maryland women's basketball team currently has the nation's longest active win streak at 21 games, also tying a school record.
• The Gators, who claimed the men's national championship, had won 17 in a row, dating back to March 1, 2006. The Terp women's streak dates back to March 19, 2006, the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
• The Terps' record for the longest win streak is 21, which spanned Jan. 10, 1989, through March 31, 1989.

Balancing Act
• For the second-consecutive year, Maryland boasts a balanced attack and a high-powered offense with numerous options as six Terps are averaging double-digit scoring.
• The Terps have had at least four players score in double figures in all but two games and four times had six players reach double digits, most recently in the championship game of the Terrapin Classic. The offense is, once again, one of the best in the nation, ranking second as of Dec. 17 and is also second in the ACC.
• During last year's championship run, five players averaged double figures, the only team from a major conference. The Terps' offense was second in the nation with an average of 83.3 ppg, the highest in the program since 1988-89.

Winning Big
• Maryland's 61-point win over UCSB was tied for the second-largest margin of victory in the history of the program. It was also the largest win margin since the Terps defeated UMES, 102-31, on Dec. 28, 1993, a 71-point margin setting the school record.
• The Terps have averaged a +32.0 margin of victory in its non-conference tear since opening the 2006-07 campaign. Maryland ranks third in the ACC in scoring margin (behind North Carolina +44.5 and Duke +32.6).
• Maryland's highest average margin of victory was +22.7 ppg during the 1975-76 campaign.

Doron & Langhorne Among Best Terp Scorers
• Senior Shay Doron scored her 1,600th-career point at Marshall and passed Marcia Richardson (1979-84) for third on Maryland's all-time scoring list. She now has netted 1,671 points in her career and needs just nine points to pass Christy Winters (1985-90) for second all-time.
• One of the 22 players in school history to have scored 1,000 points and the fastest player to reach that plateau, Crystal Langhorne became one of the top 15 scoring Terrapins, tallying her 1,300th career point at the Junkanoo Jam. She currently has 1,422 points in 85 career games and needs one to tie for 10th all-time.

Coming Up
• The Terps play in their final non-conference bout when they host 19th/18th-ranked Michigan State on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. for a nationally televised contest on CBS.
