COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The third-ranked Maryland women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. Wake Forest visits Comcast Center for the first time in two years. The game will be televised nationally on CSTV.
The Terps (19-1, 3-1 ACC) bounced back from its first loss of the season at Duke, routing long-time rival Virginia, 95-68. It was the ninth time this season Maryland has eclipsed 90 points.
Maryland leads the all-time series, 45-12, and have won the last four in a row and six of the last seven matchups. The Terps only loss to the Deacons in Comcast Center was in 2003.
Wake Forest (8-10, 0-5 ACC) is still looking for its first conference win of the season. The Demon Deacons have lost their last eight games, dating back to Dec. 21.
Yolanda Lavender leads the team with 18.2 points per game, as three players are averaging double figures. Corinne Groves is second in the ACC in rebounding, hauling down 10.1 rpg. WF is last in the league in scoring, netting 58.3 ppg, nearly 30 points per game fewer than the Terps are averaging.
After Friday night's win, the Terps are paced by Crystal Langhorne's 15.3 ppg. She posted her 39th-career double-double against the Cavaliers. She also leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 7.7 rpg.
Four other Terrapins are also averaging double figures - Shay Doron (12.4), Laura Harper (12.4), Marissa Coleman (12.0) and Kristi Toliver (11.4). The Terps are second in the country in scoring average at 87.8 ppg.
Maryland's game on Sunday can also be heard on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network (ESPN 1300AM in Baltimore flagship) with Matt Noble and Dave Preston calling the action. Live audio links will also be provided through Maryland's official athletics site at www.umterps.com.
