COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team heads south on Saturday, January 27 for a crucial pair of duals against conference opponents NC State and Duke. Going into this weekend, the Terps are atop the ACC standings at 2-0. NC State is at 1-1 and Duke has lost its only conference match so far this season. Maryland has started the ACC schedule on a solid note, outscoring North Carolina and Virginia Tech 56-21.
Last weekend at Virginia Tech, the Terps won seven of the 10 matches to beat the Hokies, 30-9 to go 12-5 and 2-0 in the conference. All four of Maryland's ranked wrestlers won again with redshirt freshman Hudson Taylor leading the way with his team-leading ninth fall of the season at 197 pounds.
NC State is 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference and has lost its last two dual contests. The Wolfpack was victorious against Duke on January 10, 26-15, and its loss came at the hands of North Carolina, 16-14, last Friday. NC State then lost a close bout to Navy, 23-16. Prior to its last two losses, the Wolfpack had won its first four matches of 2007.
Duke is 7-4 on the season with wins in four of its last five matches. The Devils just split a pair of home matches against Campbell and The Citadel on Wednesday night. Duke beat the Camels 38-8 before falling to The Citadel, 19-17. Duke's only conference match was against NC State when they lost 26-15. The Terps' match up with the Blue Devils will air live on ACC Select. Fans can watch the event for $3.99 or sign up for the monthly package at $5.99.
