Showdown of Top Teams at Sold Out Comcast on Sunday
Two of the nation's top three teams will battle in front of a sold out Comcast Center crowd when the second-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Comcast Center on Sunday, Jan. 28 to face the third-ranked Terrapins. The sellout will mark the largest crowd to ever watch an ACC women's basketball game in the history of the conference.
As the first half of the ACC schedule comes to a close for the Terps and the Heels on Sunday, the Terrapins look to snap UNC's 22-game win streak, the nation's longest winning streak. Last year, Maryland was the only team in the country to beat North Carolina, handing it a loss after opening the season with a 22-0 record. The Terps defeated North Carolina in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, avenging an ACC Tournament loss in the championship game.
With both teams' roster loaded with some of the nation's best talent, the game will feature eight Naismith Award preseason candidates, six Wade Trophy and six Wooden Award candidates. There are also a combined six players who have earned 14 All-ACC nods over the last three years.
The game will be televised live on ESPN2 with Doris Burke and Mark Jones calling the action and Rebecca Lobo on the sidelines. Fans can also listen to Matt Noble and Dave Preston call every play on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network (Flagship: ESPN 1300AM Baltimore).
Terps Sellout Comcast for Duke & UNC Games
For only the second and third times in the history of the program, Maryland athletic department has announced a sell out of Terps' women's basketball games. Both of the Terps' contests vs. No. 2 North Carolina on Jan. 28 and vs. No. 3 Duke on Feb. 18 are SOLD OUT. The game against UNC will mark the first-ever women's basketball sell out in Comcast Center, which boasts a capacity crowd of 17,950, and will be the largest crowd to ever attend an ACC women's basketball game.
Maryland owns the top four attendance marks in ACC history, including the current record of 17,243 set on Feb. 13, 2005 when it hosted the Blue Devils. The Terps also drew more than 16,000 fans to last year's matchup against Duke, the second-largest women's basketball crowd in conference history.
The Terps have owned the top women's basketball attendance record for 14 years. It first set the all-time record in 1992 when a sellout crowd of 14,500 crammed Cole Field House to watch No. 1 Maryland take on No. 2 Virginia. That record stood until 2005.
Maryland announced a sell out of the game against the Blue Devils on Jan. 10 and announced a second sell out against UNC the following day.

In 2005-06, 77,010 fans watched the Terps in Comcast Center in 16 games. In 12 home games this season, 98,008 fans have come to Comcast Center to watch the Terrapins play and four home games still remain, including two sell outs.

The Terps' road games (not including neutral site games at the Junkanoo Jam) have been their opponents' biggest or second-highest crowd of the season in all but one away game.
Maryland currently leads the ACC in attendance, averaging 6,263 fans overall and over 8,100 fans at home games. The Terps also rank seventh in the nation in home attendance.

The 11,118 fans that attended the Wake Forest game was among the top 30 attendances in the nation, as was the corwd of 10,526 against Virginia. Both rank among the top 10 crowds in ACC history, as well.
Maryland's sellout crowd against the Tar Heels will break the ACC record for largest attendance for a women's basketball game. It will also be the third-largest attendance this season in the nation (Duke at Tennessee, 21,118; Notre Dame at Tennessee, 19,092).
Game After Game
Among the many benchmarks senior Shay Doron has achieved, the Israel native is about to reach another. If it seems like Doron has been here forever it it because no other Terrapin will have worn the Maryland jersey more times than Christy Winters (1987-90) and Doron, who will be appearing in her 123rd game, tying Winters' record.
Doron is also on the verge of starting in the most games in school history. She has been etched in the starting lineup 107 times, 10 games fewer than former Terp Marche Strickland (1999-2002), who holds the school record.
