Head Coach Brenda Frese
On the game:
"I'm just pleased and proud to be able to come out and get our first ACC win. I thought the first half we came out with great intensity on the defensive end, were really focused and really executed on the offensive end as well."
On her 100th win as the Maryland Head Coach:
"It's special because of what it means behind it, in terms of the players in our program who believed and took the chance to come here, as well as all the hard work that our coaching staff and support staff put in. When you hit milestones like that, obviously what it symbolizes is what's special about it.
On Kay Yow:
"Our thoughts and prayers as a team and program are with Kay Yow and we definitely missed seeing her on the sideline and we wish her all the best and hope to see her back soon."
On being out rebounded for the first time this season:
"We addressed it in the locker room after the game, in my opinion rebounding comes down to heart and I thought that NC State was definitely more aggressive on the boards and a lot more active. We have to have that kind of fight in us and have to want to get up and get that rebound."
Forward Laura Harper
On the team's first half run:
"When this team gets rolling you don't really think about runs because it just feels like we are out there having fun and today, the first half was definitely fun; it was a good time."
Guard Shay Doron
On the different feel of an ACC game:
"I think that in the first half we definitely came out with some passion and energy, and we lost some of that in the second half. We don't have many games left before the NCAA Tournament so we have to come out and play a full 40 minutes no matter who we are playing."
On moving into 2nd place on the all-time career scoring list:
"The record is not going to stay long, I'm not worried about that. I would rather have a record of the team winning two straight national titles, that's much more important to me than a scoring record."
Guard Kristi Toliver
On entering ACC play:
"Obviously I'm more confident than I was last year. It's easy to feel comfortable offensively on this team because we have so many threats, anybody can hit it on any given night. So I'm just kind of going with it right now."
North Carolina State Interim Head Coach Stephanie Glance
Opening statement:
"Maryland's a great team, that's why they're number one in the country. They are the defending national champs and they did a great job. I felt like we played much better in the second half. Our rebounding definitely picked up. But Maryland did a great job. They have a lot of weapons and they use those weapons well."
On the strength of the ACC as a conference:
"The conference is really tough, as always. It is very top-heavy with those teams being ranked 1, 2 and 3 - and legitimately so. The conference is still very challenging after that. It will be a very interesting year. We know each other better than anyone knows us, so we'll play each other more competitively. It continues to be the best conference in the country for women's basketball."
On the challenges for her team during the game:
"Our challenge is to find ways to score ourselves. Maryland is a great team offensively, so if you don't get a few shots or they hit a few tough shots, which they will even when you're there, you still have to score yourself."
On Sa'de Wiley-Gatewood's contribution for Maryland:
"She brings a lot of quickness along with her 3-point shooting ability. She's a great combination guard. She can play 1 or 2, she can break you down defensively, and she can pull the 3. To me she brings a lot of quickness with the ball in her hands either by getting by somebody or pulling up and hitting a 3. She's very versatile and just a very good all-around player."
On Head Coach Kay Yow's absence:
"It's very difficult. You can't take a legend or an icon out of a situation and have everybody just say, `Oh let's move on.' That just doesn't happen. She is somebody that is a great coach, but is also a tremendous person. This affects our team greatly. She is a mentor, a mother, a grandmother, a counselor, a great friend."
