GREENSBORO, N.C. -
For his performance in Saturday's win over Rutgers, Maryland sophomore quarterback Chris Turner was named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Back of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Despite his lack of experience, Turner showed impressive poise after entering the game for an injured Jordan Steffy late in the first half against No. 10 Rutgers.
Turner completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 149 yards, directing four scoring drives and leading the Terrapins back from a 17-14 halftime deficit. The 34-24 win gave Maryland its first victory over a top 10 team since 2004.
Turner shared the honor with Florida State quarterback Xavier Lee who also came off the bench to lead his team to a victory over No. 22 Alabama.
Also honored this week by the ACC were Georgia Tech center Kevin Tuminello, as Offensive Lineman of the Week; Miami defensive end Calais Campbell as Defensive Lineman; Virginia Tech outside linebacker Cam Martin as Defensive Back of the Week; Virginia cornerback and punt returner Vic Hall as Specialist of the Week and Miami running back Graig Cooper as the Rookie of the Week.
Junior Mack Frost was nominated for the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week after grading out as the Terps' top interior defender.
Frost recorded the first sack of the season against Scarlet Knights' QB Mike Teel. He also broke up a pass and had two QB hurries.
Turner is the Terps' first recipient this season of the ACC Player of the Week awards.
