ATLANTA, Ga. - ATLANTA, Ga. - Beth Gillming recorded a double-double with 13 kills and a team-high 23 digs, but Georgia Tech survived to earn a five-game victory over the University of Maryland Friday in an Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball match played before 1,372 at O'Keefe Gymnasium.

Maryland fell to 13-7 overall and 5-6 in the conference, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 12-8 and 6-4.

Georgia Tech opened with a 30-21 victory, but the Terps evened the match with a 30-22 win in game two. The Jackets won game three, 30-24, before Maryland took the match to a fifth game with a 30-28 win in the fourth game.

The Yellow Jackets put away the match with a 15-10 win in the fifth game.

Mary Beth Brown finished with a team-high 16 kills for Maryland and added eight blocks for the Terrapins. Tedi Doucet had 31 assists for the Terrapins, who also got seven kills and 10 blocks from Meredith Doyle. Gillming added six blocks to her effort.

For Georgia Tech, Chrissy DeMichelis had 22 kills, with Ulrike Stegemann and Talisa Kellogg adding 13 kills each.

Georgia Tech never trailed in the fifth and final game, taking leads of 4-1, 9-4 and 10-5. Maryland pulled within 11-8, but the Yellow Jackets regained the momentum and earned the victory.

The Terrapins used a six-point run to take a 22-15 lead in the fourth game after recovering from an 11-7 deficit.

The Terrapins travel to league-leading Clemson on Saturday night.
