Men's Lacrosse Announces 2007 Award Winners At Fall Banquet

Oct. 7, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's lacrosse team and head coach Dave Cottle welcomed back the 2007 seniors that helped the Terps make four-straight NCAA tournament appearances, on Sunday, October 7, for the annual awards banquet at Sprint Heritage Hall in the Comcast Center on the campus of the University of Maryland.

The highlight of the afternoon's awards was the presentation of the "Big Man" Award, given in honor of former coach Dick Edell. The award was created to honor the player that best exemplified the selfless and positive qualities of the retired coach. The 2007 award was given to short-stick defensive midfielder Jimmy Borell.

The Daniel Slafkosky Coach's Award was also given out, in memory of assistant coach Dave Slafkosky's son, who passed away prior to the 2001 season. The coaches chose this year's recipient, defender Sean Sullivan, as the player who best illustrated Dan's positive attitude on and off the field.

The Edwin Powell Award, which is presented to the Team MVP, was given to Ray Megill. The native of Clark, N.J., was a second team USILA All-American and was a nominee for the 2007 Tewaaraton Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation's top lacrosse player.
