GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 19 Maryland men's soccer team will take on No. 4 Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2007 ACC Championship on Wednesday, November 14 at noon. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw at Ludwig Field earlier this year on October 13. The Terrapins finished in a three-way tie for third with the Hokies and Duke and tiebreaking procedures determined the seeds with Maryland getting the fifth seed and Virginia Tech the fourth seed.
Duke earned the third seed as it went 1-0-1 against Virginia Tech and Maryland while the Hokies finished 0-0-2 against their foes. Maryland lost at Duke and tied the Hokies for a 0-1-1 record.
The tournament is being held in Cary, N.C. at the SAS Soccer Complex. Virginia and NC State open play on Tuesday for the right to face Boston College on Wednesday. The championship is slated for Sunday, November 18 at 3:30 p.m.
Boston College earned the top seed in the tournament as it went 7-1-0 in the regular season while Wake Forest is the second seed with a 6-1-1 conference mark.
Maryland enters the tournament as the hottest team in the conference, not having lost in its last 10 matches. The Terps are 7-0-3 during that stretch with four straight wins, three of them in the conference.
