
Coleman Named ACC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After leading fourth-ranked Maryland to a 2-0 record to open the new season, junior Marissa Coleman was named the year's first ACC's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Coleman averaged teams highs of 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Maryland's season-opening victories included a dominating win over sixth-ranked Oklahoma on Sunday evening at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. Against the Sooners, Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) recorded her first double-double of the season and the 18th of her career, tallying game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds. She was 9-for-17 from the floor, 2-for-4 from three-point range, while also dishing out five assists and collecting three steals.
A preseason All-ACC pick, Coleman started the season with 14 points and eight rebounds in the win over Princeton, helping the Terps advance to the second round of the Preseason WNIT. She also shot 6-for-12 from the floor and converted on her only free throw attempt. The attempt was the 200th of her career. Boasting an 82.0 shooting percentage from the charity stripe for her career, she currently holds the school record in the category.
