Quick Hits
Maryland moved up to No. 3 in the Associated Press poll after defeating then-No. 6 Oklahoma.
The Terrapins start the season 2-0 for the seventh-straight year. They are looking to go 3-0 for only the third year in a row.
The Terps have posted double-doubles five times in just two games.
Three Terps overall were selected preseason candidates for the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award.
Marissa Coleman needs just eight points to reach the 1,000th of her career. There are currently 22 1,000-point scorers in Maryland history, including current Terrapin Crystal Langhorne.
Maryland returns the second-most experienced team in the nation, with eight-returning letterwinners and 360 combined career starts.
Preseason WNIT Pits Terps and Blue Hens
Coming off a big win at the State Farm Tip-Off Classic on Sunday, defeating then-No. 6 Oklahoma, the third-ranked Terrapins return home to host Delaware in the second round of the Preseason WNIT on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
The Terrapins are 2-0 for the seventh-straight year and look to improve on that record. They have won their first three games of the season in each of the last two seasons.
The game will be webcast on the internet on ACC Select (www.accselect.com) with Matt Noble and former Terrapins star Vicki Brick calling the action. The game can also be heard on Maryland's WMUC Sports (www.wmucsports.com). Video and audio links are available through ww.umterps.com.
Terps Move up to third in AP Poll
After its dominating defeat of then-No. 6 Oklahoma, Maryland moved up a notch to third in this week's Associated Press Poll. The ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll is released on Tuesdays.
Brenda Frese's latest Terps have found themselves garnering high praise for the second-straight year, remaining in the top five for the second-straight week.
Eight Maryland opponents also appear in the top 25 poll. The Terps face top-10 foes Rutgers (#6/3) and Oklahoma (#9/6). Conference rivals North Carolina (#7/7) and Duke (#10/9) were also among the top 10.
The Terps also battle No. 16/16 Ohio State and No. 18/19 Florida State. Pittsburgh dropped out of the AP poll this week, but was ranked No. 21 in last week's coaches ranking. NC State was also rated 25th in the coaches poll. #4/5 LSU and #17/18 Michigan State are possible opponents and could face the Terrapins in the Preseason WNIT, as is Notre Dame, who is tabbed 23rd in the AP poll.
Opponents receiving votes are Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, UCLA and Temple. Other Preseason WNIT teams getting votes are TCU and Western Kentucky.
Last Time Out
Participating in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic for the first time, Maryland dominated then-sixth ranked Oklahoma, 76-66. The Terrapins led by as many as 24 points and took control of the game early on.
After trailing by six points five minutes into the game, Maryland took the lead less than two minutes later, 11-10. The lead flip flopped over the next several minutes before Maryland took the lead for good at 10:11 and never looked back, finishing the half outscoring the Sooners, 24-7.
Three Terrapins had double-doubles in the game, including Kristi Toliver who posted her second of the season, tallying 16 points and dishing out seven assists.
Marissa Coleman led all players with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her 18th career double-double and her first of the season. Also with a double-double was Laura Harper, who contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Making her second start of her career, freshman Marah Strickland netted 14 points, knocking down four three pointers in the game.
The Terps nearly broke Courtney Paris' double-doubles streak. Paris had just nine points with less than three minutes remaining in the game. But at 2:53, she connected on a jumper on an inbounds play to finish with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Her sister, Ashley, led the Sooners with 17 points.
About Delaware
The Blue Hens won their season opener, 54-47, over Delaware State in the first round of the Preseason WNIT. Senior Kyle DeHaven had 24 points in the win, while sophomore Sha'Ron Harrison grabbed 12 boards.
Delaware was outrebounded by Del. State, but limited DSU to 27.1 percent from the floor.
Led by head coach Tina Martin, who is in her 12th season at the helm, Delaware returns seven letterwinners this season, including CAA All-Defensive team member DeHaven. The Blue Hens have suffered significant losses, including Tyresa Smith, who was the CAA's Defensive Player ofthe Year, and Chrissy Fisher, who was a third-team all-conference honoree.
The Blue Hens went 26-6 last season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament. They were also 16-2 in the CAA, tying for second in the standings.
SERIES HISTORY: Maryland leads the all-time series, 8-0, but the last meeting between the teams was in 2000.
1,000 point Countdown...
Three Terrapins are nearing their 1,000th-career point.
Junior Marissa Coleman is just eight points shy of 1,000, entering Tuesday's game with 992 career points.
Senior Laura Harper notched her 900th-career point against the Sooners, while junior Kristi Toliver has netted 834 points in her career, 166 points shy of 1,000.
National player of the year candidate and senior Crystal Langhorne is third on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,711. She holds the school record for fastest to 1,000 points, needing just 60 games.
Coleman Earns Weekly ACC Nod
After averaging 17.0 points and 10.0 rebounds over the Terps' first two games of the season, junior Marissa Coleman was selected the first ACC Player of the Week of the season.
Coleman led all players with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the dominating win over then-No. 6 Oklahoma, shooting 9-for-17 from the floor. She also handed out five assists and had three steals. In the season opener against Princeton, she had 14 points on 6-for-12 shooting, grabbing eight boards.
It is the second time in her career she has earned the weekly honor. Coleman was named to the Preseason All-ACC team.
