COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Thanks to her blistering performance in last week's WNIT, Maryland point guard Kristi Toliver was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday.
A guard, Kristi Toliver (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) took home WNIT Most Valuable Player honors after averaging 22.3 points, 8.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game in the third-ranked Terps' three victories over Delaware, No. 23/25 Notre Dame and No. 4/4 LSU.
The junior playmaker notched her third-consecutive double-double against Delaware, scoring a team-high 19 points while dishing out 10 assists to send the Terps to the semifinals against Notre Dame last Friday. Toliver lit up the Fighting Irish to the tune of 25 points and seven assists. Fifteen of Toliver's 25 points in the game came from beyond the 3-point line. She broke the 20-point barrier against the fourth-ranked Tigers on Sunday for the second-straight game, scoring 23 points and dishing out seven assists.
Toliver shot an impressive 57.1 percent from the floor in all three games combined and 55 percent from long range. She was perfect at the free-throw line, going 9-for-9, and broke the 900-career point mark in the LSU win.
Toliver's selection marked the second straight week that a Terp has been named the ACC's Player of the Week. Junior Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) won the award last week.
Toliver and the Terps take on local-rival Loyola on Tuesday evening, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The game can be watched on ACC Select, with links available at www.umterps.com. Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting www.umterps.com or by calling the Comcast Center Ticket Office at 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
