Maryland Hosts Local Rival Loyola
• #3/3 Terps are back in action hosting local foe Loyola on Tuesday, Nov. 20. Maryland is looking for its sixth-straight win, while the Greyhounds are looking to get back on the court after six days off.
• Maryland has played its five games over 10 games, playing three games last week. The game vs. the Greyhounds begins another three-game week which ends in California.
• All of Maryland's non-televised home games can be watched on the internet on ACC Select (www.accselect.com). Audio from the webcast can be heard on Maryland All-Access. Links for both can be found at www.utmerps.com.
Terps Remain Third in the Nation
• With three of its five wins coming over ranked teams, Maryland remains at No. 3 in the Associated Press poll, which was announced on Monday. The Terps were third in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll last week. The new coaches poll will be released on Tuesday.
• Brenda Frese's latest Terps have found themselves garnering high praise for the second-straight year, remaining in the top five for the third-straight week.
• Eight Maryland opponents also appear in the top 25 poll. The Terps face top-10 foes LSU (#6/64), Rutgers (#7/7) and Oklahoma (#10/8). Conference rivals North Carolina (#5/6) and Duke (#9/9) are also among the top 10. The Terps have already logged wins over the Sooners and the Tigers.
• The Terps defeated No. 23/25 Notre Dame in the Preseason WNIT semifinal. They also battle No. 15/16 Ohio State and No. 20/19 Florida State. NC State is also rated 24th in the coaches poll.
• Opponents receiving votes are Pttisburgh, Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, UCLA and Temple.
About the Terps
• Maryland is 5-0 for the second-straight year for the 11th time in the history of the program. The Terrapins just captured the Preseason WNIT title, defeating fourth-ranked LSU in the championship game. Three of Maryland's five victories have come against ranked opponents.
• Maryland has had at least one player with a double-double in all five games, posting nine double-doubles in the first five games of the season. Leading the way for the Terrapins is junior Kristi Toliver, this week's ACC Player of the Week. She is close to averaging a double-double, netting a team-high 19.8 points per game and 9.0 assists per game.
• Senior Jade Perry is also close to averaging a double-double after posting three double-doubles so far this season. She is scoring 9.6 ppg, while hauling down 9.8 boards per game.
• Three Terrapins are averaging double figures and three are grabbing at least 5.0 boards a game, outrebounding their opponents by 16.0 margin.
About the Greyhounds
• Loyola is 2-1 on the season and has been off since Nov. 14, after dropping a close game at LaSalle, 51-50. All three of its games have been decided by 10 points or less with its wins coming against Drexel (72-62) and Villanova (49-47).
• The Greyhounds have three players averaging double figures, led by Vika Sholokhova's 11.0 points per game. Sholokhova is also grabbing 10.0 rebounds per game.
• Sholokhova was last year's MAAC Six Player of the Year and was selected second team Preseason All-MAAC. The Greyhounds are mentored by 2007 MAAC Coach of the Year Joe Logan, who enters his third season as head coach of the team.
• SERIES HISTORY: Maryland leads the all-time series, 13-3. The Terps have won the last seven meetings, after the Greyhounds won two in a row in 1997 and 1998. Last December, Marylad visited Baltimore for the first tme since 2000, winning 110-55 over the Greyhounds.
Terps Crowned Preseason WNIT Champs
• With its 75-62 win over then-No. 4 LSU, Maryland captured its first Preseason WNIT title.
• The Terrapins defeated Princeton (76-52), Delaware (91-43), No. 23/25 Notre Dame (75-59) and the Tigers to clinch the tournament crown. All four games were played at Comcast Center.
• It was Maryland's second-ever appearance in the Preseason WNIT, playing in the inaugural tournament in 1994. That year, the Terrapins lost to Virginia Tech, 68-53, in the first round.
Toliver, Perry Earn Preseason WNIT Honors
• After leading Maryland to win the Preseason WNIT, Terrapins Kristi Toliver and Jade Perry earned tournament honors. Kristi Toliver was selected the tournament Most Valuable Player after averaging 20.8 points and 8.5 assists per game, twice recording a double-double. She shot 59.6 from the floor and was 50 percent from three-point range.
• Perry had double-doubles in two games and averaged 10.0 points and a team-high 11.5 rebounds per game in the tournament. She also shot 56 percent from the floor and had over a block per game.
World's Largest Baby Shower
• To help celebrate head coach Brenda Frese's pregnancy, Maryland fans are invited to attend the world's largest baby shower on Friday, Nov. 30 when the Terps take on Ohio State in the inaugural Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
• Fans are encouraged to bring a new and unused toy to the game. All donations will go to the Washington, D.C., chapter of Toys for Tots.
Coming Up
• Maryland heads to the West Coast for a two-game road swing. UC Santa Barbara will host the Terrapins after Thanksgiving on Friday, Nov. 23. On Sunday, Nov. 25, Maryland plays UCLA for the first meeting between the teams since 1995. The game will be televised on Fox SportsNet and Comcast SportsNet in the Baltimore/Washington area.
