Maryland starts the season 6-0 for the second-straight year. Half the wins have come against ranked opponents.
The Terps are ranked third in the nation in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls for the second-straight week. They have been ranked in the top five three weeks in a row.
For the second time in three games, Maryland tied the single-game school record for made three pointers (12).
The Terps have had at least one player with a double-double in five of the six games, recording nine double-doubles in all.
Maryland players have earned the first two ACC Player of the Week honors of the season, with Kristi Toliver garnering the award this week.
Three Terps overall were selected preseason candidates for the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award and will face fellow candidate Sylvia Fowles.
Maryland returns the second-most experienced team in the nation, with eight-returning letterwinners and 380 combined career starts.
Terps Head West for Two-Game Road Swing
The third-ranked Terrapins take on UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Nov. 23 to kick off a two-game road swing on the West Coast. It is the Terps first trip to California since the 2000-01 season.
Maryland has played its first six games of the season over 12 days. Its next eight games will be played over 17 days beginning with the contest against the Gauchos.
Friday's game at UC Santa Barbara will be webcast on the BigWest.tv available through the Big West Conference's official site on a pay-per-view basis with a charge of $4.95. A link will also be available through www.umterps.com.
Last Time Out
Redshirt freshman Emery Wallace broke out for a career-high 18 points, leading Maryland to 98-50 blowout of local foe Loyola on Tuesday night.
Wallace was 3-for-3 from three-point range and went 6-for-8 overall to lead six Terrapin double-figure scorers. Maryland never trailed in the win.
The newcomers played a big role in the win, with Drey Mingo neeting 16 points to go with six boards, while Marah Strickland had 12 points. Kat Lyons netted six points, but dished out eight assists.
Junior Kristi Toliver had 15 points and seven rebounds, while junior Marissa Colemand and senior Laura Harper each reached double figures.
Maryland scored 51 points in the first half and poured in a school-record tying 12 three-pointers in the game. It is the second time in three games the Terrapins have tied the three-point record.
The Terps shot nearly 60 percent from the floor and were better than 90 percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Greyhounds, who had just two players in double figures with Vika Sholokhova netting 20 points, shot just 35 percent from the floor and only hit on 15 percent of its three-point attempts.
About the Gauchos
UCSB is 2-2 on the season, coming off a 79-69 win over Loyola Marymount on Monday night. Its first win of the season was a 69-63 overtime victory over USC on Nov. 11.
Three players are averaging double figures, as Jenna Green, a two-time All-Big West honoree, has averaged a team-high 13.0 points per game. She is also grabbing a team-high 7.5 boards per game.
The Gauchos are averaging 60.0 points per game, while allowing 64.8 points per game. They have not allowed any opponent to score more than 69 points this season.
UC Santa Barbara is mentored by Mark French who is in his 22nd season at the helm, winning over 400 games with the Gauchos.
SERIES HISTORY: The all-time series is tied at 1-1. UCSB visited College Park last season. It was the first meeting between the teams since 1995. Maryland defeated the Gauchos, 105-44. During the course of the game, Marissa Coleman became the first player in school history to record a triple double.
1,000 point Countdown...
Two Terrapins are nearing their 1,000th-career point.
Senior Laura Harper notched her 900th-career point against the Sooners and has netted 965 points to date, while junior Kristi Toliver also netted her 900th point against LSU and has 916 for her career.
National player of the year candidate and senior Crystal Langhorne is third on Maryland's all-time scoring list with 1,711. She holds the school record for fastest to 1,000 points, needing just 60 games. Junior Marissa Coleman scored her 1,000th point against Delaware in her 74th-career game.
Terps Tie School Record... Again
Maryland made 12 three pointers in the rout of Loyola on Tuesday evening, tying a school single-game record. It was the second time in three game the Terrapins had matched the school mark.
The Terrapins hit 12 three-pointers against No. 23/25 Notre Dame in the Preseason WNIT semifinal to tie the school mark.
The record tied was set last season against UNC Greensboro last year on Dec. 21, 2006.
World's Largest Baby Shower
To help celebrate head coach Brenda Frese's pregnancy, Maryland fans are invited to attend the world's largest baby shower on Friday, Nov. 30 when the Terps take on Ohio State in the inaugural Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Fans are encouraged to bring a new and unused toy to the game. All donations will go to the Washington, D.C., chapter of Toys for Tots.
