COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Stephen King was named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week and the ACC Player of the week on November 5 after his performance Saturday night in Maryland's 4-1 win against No. 14 Virginia on Senior Night. The captain tallied a goal while becoming the seventh player in Terrapins history to record three assists in a game.
It was King's 89th start in the red and black kit against the Cavaliers, tying the school record for most starts in a career set by Keith Beach (1995-98). The last Terp to notch three assists in a game was Chris Lancos on November 13, 2004 against North Carolina.
The Medford, N.J. native now has 12 assists this season which leads the ACC and is currently second in the country. He is just five helpers away from breaking the Maryland record for assists in a season held by Gino Ferrin (1985) and Beach (1998) who both had 14.
King also pushed his career assists total to 32 which is now tied for second with Eberhard Klein who had the same number from 1962-64. Beach is the all-time leader as he assisted on 35 goals from 1995-98. His 92 points ranks sixth all-time and he is eight points away from becoming just the fourth player in Maryland history to eclipse the 100-point mark. His 30 career goals puts him just one score outside the top 10 on the career charts.
King and the Terps, who have not lost in nine games, head to North Carolina on Friday, November 9 to face the Tar Heels in the regular season finale.
